Panagiotopoulos says ‘now is no time to talk against Turkey’ as Turkish planes violate Greek airspace 90 times in single day — Greek City Times

Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Greek Defense Minister mentioned that due to the war in Ukraine, “this is not the best time to speak against Turkey in NATO” as Turkey continues its daily violations of Greek airspace.

He made the comment despite Turkey’s provocation over the Aegean “striking red” as its air force violated Greek airspace 90 times in a single day.

At the same time, there were four flights over the island of Panagia and Oinousses.

Specifically, a pair of Turkish F-16 fighter jets conducted four flybys over Panagia and Oinousses on Thursday.

At 6:33 p.m., the Turkish F-16s flew over Panagia and Oinousses as they made another overflight of the same islands at 6:35 p.m., all at 26,000 feet.

As learned by the Greek military authorities, 21 Turkish planes flew over the Aegean Sea (12 F-16s, three unmanned drones, two CN-235 spy planes, two helicopters and two ATR-72 anti-submarines).

Of the 12 fighter jets, six were armed and in two cases there were dogfights with Greek planes.

Turkish planes flew to the northeast, central and southeast Aegean Sea and recorded 20 violations of air traffic rules in the Athens Flight Information Region.

According to the Greek military authorities, the Turkish planes were identified and intercepted in accordance with international rules and in accordance with established practice.

The sharp increase in Turkish provocations over the Aegean Sea is directly related to the major military exercise “Blue Fatherland” of the Turkish Armed Forces in the Eastern Mediterranean, Aegean and Black Seas at the same time as the war in Ukraine is unfolding.

The exercise, which started on Monday and will last until April 21, aims to increase combat readiness levels but is also used by Ankara to back up its baseless claims and provocative claims about a ‘blue homeland’, mainly in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.

The blue homeland dreamed up by Turkey aims to steal the Greek islands and maritime space.
